Fred Whitton

My training plan for the first 5 months of 2016 has all been based around the Fred Whitton Challenge.

110 miles and 11,100 ft of climbing including all of the major passes in the Lake District. Hardknott pass comes after 98 miles.

This was the first dry edition since 2008 and having done my other 3 Fred's in torrential rain/snow the 24 degree heat was much preferred although harder for some so I understand.

I finished with an elite time (6 hours 59 minutes) which included 15 minutes at feed stops etc- and a brief chat with Dave Lester who I ran into after Honister Pass.

This time placed me 117th out of 2500 and was a PR by 17 minutes. I averaged 248W weighted power for the ride.

For strava users I also had 69 PR's on the ride.

Of note also was a chat I had with 2 guys at registration the day before. One of the guys daughters had CF. He was chuffed to to see the jersey and enquiried about borrowing/buying one for Ride London as he is riding to raise money for the CF trust.
