Roundup of this week's racing & TT news.

Daniel Webb - Race 5 - Saxton - 2nd June

What a brutal race. The wind, the rain and the pace meant that despite a near full field starting, only about 20 to 30 finished.
By the end of the first lap, the winds were starting to settle but already the damage had been done & the first 3 groups were in tatters - many riders were already strewn around the circuit. The gaps were closing fast. Lap 3 saw the prime and by this stage, what was left of the groups had come together. Tommy Bustard and Matt Williams, the only riders who could possibly win the series, vied for the prime points. Tommy beating Matt to the line with Pete Barusevicus close behind for 3, 2 and 1 series points.  Soon after this, the pace caused a splitting of the group into 2 but each diminished in number as the race continued. Josh Edmondson, putting in his 1st star appearance in these races, attacked with brother Nathan - no one was able to follow. The brothers were cheered on by their grandparents Pat & Alan who were braving the weather and marshalling out on the course. They increased their lead to the finish Nathan taking the victory, Josh in 2nd. A sprint finish from the by now small pursuing group saw Dave Shackleton (previous series winner) take 3rd with Julian Varley, Pete Barusevicus, Ricky Feather and Alex O'Sullivan close on his heels.

Meanwhile not too far behind, a slightly larger following group contained Tommy Bustard and Matt Williams who were still busy keeping a close eye on each other. Another sprint saw Danny Webb show us his burst of speed again to gain 8th. Bustard 9th position, securing a resounding series victory for the 2nd successive year. Rob Ormrod 10th, securing his position in the series top 10 too. Matt Williams, just missing out on this week's points gained 2nd overall. A great ride from Mike Firth who was I believe, the only 4th cat rider to finish with this group.  Another 4 riders crossed the line soon after; Graeme Collin, John Wright, Richard Siddle and John Trotter. Some of that group, you might call slightly more mature members of the cycling community but still showing some of the youngsters how to do it.
A special mention to Noor Hassan visiting us from United Arab Emirates who bravely completed the race in horrible conditions despite being used to riding in 40* heat.

Thanks to Paul Best for capturing some great photos from the Oulton Park series on Tuesday evening. Pleased to have been in a chase group of 5 riders for 4 of the 10 laps, trying to catch the leading group of 3 riders... lookin' forward to more race action next week!

Rob Barnard - Calder Clarion TT No 5  3rd June

Much better conditions than two weeks ago and I managed to stay on course this time. Felt like I was going well covering the first 5 miles in 11:58 and 25.1mph. Unfortunately it then gets a little more rolling and with the nagging wind I slowed to 22.5mph for the last 5 miles, still it's a course PB LOL. I was unfortunatley caught by my minute man, but I managed to catch my 3 minute man before the ackworth turn.  I left the disk behind last night and used me 50mm PlanetX tubs mainly as I've not used them for ages and thought I'd give them a run out. I ALMOST enjoyed it !  Time: 25:22
