Daniel Webb wins bunch sprint to take 4th place

It was great to see that the locals seemed to approve of a bike race speeding through their quiet village; many of them took to the streets to cheer on the riders as they raced past.

All 4 groups looked like they meant business, fighting hard to stay away or to chase the group in front. By the 3rd lap, the 2nd group had caught the 3rd as they contested to the line for the Prime. Thomas Wood (Paul Milnes)narrowly taking the win from Lee Morely, Jeremy Copland taking 3rd place awarding 3,2 and 1 series points respectively.
By this time a small but elite looking group of 3 riders - Tom Bustard, Matt Cronshaw & Pete Williams had attacked off the front of the scratch group. This left the remainder of the scratch group depleted lacking fire power & perhaps cohesion meaning that they never caught the group in front.

Meanwhile, the 3rd group on the road had chased the bunch ahead and formed a decent size bunch despite the high pace causing a considerable number of riders to be shelled from the back. Some of the stronger riders, notably Giles Pidcock, Daniel Webb, Matt Williams and Chris Barnes, made attempts to break away from this group but to no avail.
When the 3 break away riders from the scratch group caught & then sped past the bunch on the penultimate lap, not one was able to jump onto their wheels to follow. These 3 riders crossed the finish line for podium positions - Matt Cronshaw (Madison Genesis) outsprinting Pete Williams (ONE PC) for the win, Tom Bustard (Giordana) taking 3rd. Alongside Tom's 2nd place last week, this result puts him in the leaders Green Jersey.

The bunch followed not too far behind with Daniel Webb (Team Cystic Fibrosis) taking the sprint for 4th.
It was great to see 3 women lining up at the start. All made valiant efforts but only one, Britt Tate, managed to stick with the pace until the end and finish with the bunch. It's also great to see riders of all categories in the top ten again upholding the joys of handicapped racing.
