Team Cystic Fibrosis got the 2014 Road Racing Season underway with a strong showing over last weekend. Saturday saw John Schofield lead the field home in the opening 3/4 Category race at the York Circuit Races. This was closely followed by Silkstone based Mark ‘Dog’s’ Davies winning a bunch sprint to clinch victory on the 2nd Category race at the same meeting.

The team moved to Selby on Sunday for the Seacroft Wheelers Spring Road Race.

In the 3/4 race Dave Partridge and Phil Hodges both showed good form with Partridge launching a number of aggressive attacks before finally being reeled in to finish in the bunch alongside his teammate.

The 2/3 race had a 60 man field with Mark Davies in action again alongside Team Cystic Fibrosis’ Daniel Webb and Ivan Boyes. Daniel Webb delivered a tremendous ride breaking away with four compatriots on the second lap of 11. The break built a gap of 50 seconds over the chasing peleton before three riders bridged the gap with 3 laps to go. The eight man group stayed clear to sprint it out at the finish with Webb managing to hold on for fifth place despite having averaged over 25mph for the 60 mile race. Davies and Boyes both finished respectably in the bunch.
